It came a bit later in the year than we expected, but Mike Gerber collected a number of career firsts on Tuesday evening. Most important of all was his first career hit, a double down the left field line in the bottom of the eighth inning. It scored Jose Iglesias from first base, resulting in Gerber’s first career RBI, and came in the first start of Gerber’s major league career.

Gerber’s double was one of just three Tigers hits in the game, but it scored what ultimately became the game-winning run after closer Shane Greene allowed a run in the top of the ninth.
