Rochester Red Wings 14, Toledo Mud Hens 3 (box)
Phillipe Aumont and Paul Voelker were the recipients of a beatdown as the Mud Hens’ bullpen day didn’t go so well. Taylor Motter jumped Aumont for a leadoff solo shot to start the game and things went downhill from there. Harold Castro and Dawel Lugo each doubled and scored a run to pace the offense. Jacob Robson walked and scored the Hens’ other run out of the leadoff spot.
Lugo: 1-4, 2B, R, RBI, 2 SO
Scivicque: 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB, SO
Aumont (L): 2.0 IP, 4 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO
Coming up next: The Hens sent Ryan Carpenter to the bump on Friday night as action moves to Buffalo. Thomas Pannone starts for the Bisons.
Portland Sea Dogs 10, Erie SeaWolves 9 (box)
The Sea Dogs paid the SeaWolves back for Wednesday’s drubbing, hammering Alex Faedo with four home runs and pouring it on to outlast an Erie rally. Faedo made it five innings, surprisingly, surrendering a two-run blast and a solo shot in the first and then getting dinged again for solo shots in the fourth and fifth innings. Joe Navilhon did even worse in relief, as he gave up five runs in the sixth and couldn’t complete the frame. The SeaWolves scored two in the fourth, and rallied with seven runs total in the seventh and eighth to get within one before falling short.
Castro: 2-5, 2 RBI
Ficociello: 2-4, 2 R, RBI, BB, SO
Faedo: 5.0 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, 5 SO
Coming up next: Action moves to Altoona, where the SeaWolves will take on James Marvel and the Curve on Friday night.
Walks weren’t the problem, but Gregory Soto was knocked around anyway on Thursday night. He went just 3 2⁄3 innings, allowing five runs, four earned. A fourth inning home run from Troy Montgomery accounted for the only Flying Tigers offense. Eudis Idrogo leaked two runs in relief, and no comeback was imminent.
Montgomery: 1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR, SO
Burch: 2-4, SO, CS
Soto (L): 3.2 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 9 H, BB, 4 SO
Coming Up Next: The two clubs meet up again at 6:30pm ET on Friday.
Bowling Green Hot Rods 3, West Michigan Whitecaps 1 (box)
Jesus Rodriguez went seven strong innings for the Whitecaps, but they stranded 14 men on base. Rodriguez punched out six, allowing two runs, one earned, on a walk and four hits. Brady Policelli launched a solo blast in the eighth for the Caps only run. Rey Rivera had two hits, as did Garrett McCain in the losing effort.
Rivera: 2-4, SO
Policelli: 1-4, HR, R, RBI, 2 SO
Rodriguez (L): 7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R (ER), BB, 6 SO
Coming up next: Brad Bass gets the start on Friday night, as the Whitecaps look to avoid a sweep at the Hot Rods’ hands.
Carlos Guzman pitched a fine game for the Tigers, but the bats failed to fire. Guzman tossed six innings of one-run ball on a walk and four hits, while striking out six. If you’re unfamiliar with him, take a look at this recent profile. Unfortunately, the offense managed just three hits and a walk on the day.
De La Cruz: 1-3, 2B
Guzman (L): 6.0 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 6 SO
Coming up next: Carson Lance takes on the Cyclones’ Kyle Wilson on Friday night.
