Tigers place John Hicks on 10-day disabled list

Daniel Stumpf has also been optioned to Triple-A Toledo

MLB: Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals Peter G. Aiken

The Detroit Tigers made several roster moves on Wednesday ahead of their series finale against the Los Angeles Angels.

John Hicks, who has served as both first baseman and backup catcher, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with right groin strain. Hicks did not play in Tuesday’s game against the Angels and was not pulled early in his last appearance on August 6, so this may have been an ongoing concern. In a corresponding move, Grayson Greiner has been called up from Triple-A Toledo.

Relief pitcher Daniel Stumpf will be heading to Toledo himself after being optioned today following a dismal outing in Tuesday’s game against the Angels, where he appeared for 0.1 of an inning, gave up two hits and a run, and walked a batter. The Tigers will recall Artie Lewicki in his place. In 11 games with the Tigers this season Lewicki has a 4.94 ERA, 4.47 FIP, and 1.613 WHIP, serving both as a spot starter and reliever.
