Since MLB.com is being generous with their embeddable content this morning, let’s also check out Spencer Turnbull’s first big league strikeout. Turnbull tossed a 1-2-3 inning against the Indians on Friday with a pair of groundouts, and this dusting of Yan Gomes.
While Turnbull only recorded one K, he did blow a 96 mph heater past Francisco Lindor in a 3-1 count.

It’s easy to get excited about players after a nice debut, but this is a little different. Turnbull’s 96 mph fastball with natural cutting action is a legitimate big league pitch. If he can pair that with a more consistent breaking ball, he would be a lights out reliever. At the very least, he should be able to provide some solid innings in middle relief for the Tigers in the future.
