Monday open thread: The Mets are busy and everyone else is not

New Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen is basically this offseason’s Jerry Dipoto.

As John put it in his weekly links post this morning, we are slowly approaching “the winter months when we will find our baseball excitement in mundane things like cryptic quotes from the front office in random news reports and the signing of guys you are vaguely familiar with to minor league deals.”

Sadly, I think we’re already there. There is little MLB news of note, save for whatever the New York Mets are doing right now, and the football seasons are also winding down. Basketball and hockey are fun — especially given how Michigan and Michigan State are playing these days — but those will have to hold us over a long time until spring training gets underway in mid-February.

So, let’s talk about other stuff! You’re welcome to use this thread to talk about anything, but here are a few questions to get you going.

  • Which basketball team is more impressive right now: Michigan or Michigan State?
  • How in the world did ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ win a Golden Globe last night?
  • Which Tigers player should host the Oscars and why is it Miguel Cabrera?
  • What is the best Netflix/Amazon/Hulu show you have watched this offseason?
  • Do you hate those stupid motorized scooters randomly popping up in your downtown locale as much as I do?
  • Who is your National League team in 2019?
  • Who are you rooting for in the NFL playoffs?

Happy Monday!
