Thanksgiving is here, and aside from an opportunity to spend time with our loved ones, eat delicious food, and scour the internet for impending Black Friday deals, it’s also meant to be a day where we remind ourselves of all the things we have to be thankful for.
It would be easy for me to say “what made you thankful to be a Tigers fan in 2019” but only so many of us can answer “Matthew Boyd’s first half” or “Spencer Turnbull’s amazing rookie season.” It just hasn’t been an easy couple of years to be a Tigers fan.
Yet all of you — and all of us writing here — continue to stick it out. We have hope, however much we sometimes veil it in sarcasm, for a brighter future for this team we all love so much. Because that’s what it means to love something, you must take it in the good times and the bad. And we believe those good times will come again.
So this Thanksgiving, I instead want to know what is is OVERALL that makes you thankful to be a Tigers fan. Is it the memories shared with your families over decades, or the opportunity to teach your own children to love baseball by introducing them to the team? Maybe it’s just the joy you get from an afternoon spent at the ballpark with a (not so) cheap beer in one hand and a hot dog in the other.
Let’s try to remember how many positive things this team has given us, and remember to be thankful for them today.
