Detroit Tigers right-handed pitching prospect Franklin Perez has been out with an unspecified stomach illness since Sunday, and according to reporter Chris McCosky, the Tigers are starting to get worried.

Perez has apparently been experiencing acute stomach pain since the weekend, and it has come to the point where the team sent the 21-year-old for additional testing on Tuesday in order to determine if the pain is related to anything more serious.

Perez spent most of the 2018 season on the shelf with an oblique strain suffered in spring training, followed by shoulder inflammation upon his return. He elected to stay and train in Lakeland this offseason in the hope of getting in prime shape and recapturing his lost status as one of the Tigers’ top prospects. Reports had indicated he was in great shape and ready to go as recently as late last week.

Update: As many have already pointed out in the comments, Perez returned to full workouts on Wednesday. Hopefully this is the end of whatever ailed him over the past few days.
