Norfolk Tides 6, Toledo Mud Hens 5 (box)
Matt Hall gave up a pair of runs in 4 2⁄3 innings, but the Tides broke things open in the later innings against Toledo’s bullpen. Caleb Thielbar and Eduardo Jimenez each gave up two runs, giving the Tides a 6-2 lead heading into the ninth inning. Dawel Lugo made things interesting with a three-run homer to bring Toledo within one, but that is all the Mud Hens offense could muster in their comeback attempt. Lugo also tripled on the night.

Lakeland’s offensive woes continued on Friday as they managed just two hits against Jupiter pitching in a losing effort. Brady Policelli, Brock Deatherage, and Daniel Reyes were the only Flying Tigers to reach base, with Reyes getting on via a walk. Jesus Rodriguez gave up three runs on eight hits across five innings, and suffered his first loss of the season. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. Max Green worked a scoreless inning in relief.

Great Lakes Loons 4, West Michigan Whitecaps 3 (box)
Carlos Guzman gave up a pair of home runs and four markers in total (three earned) as the Loons took the series opener on Friday evening. The Whitecaps took a 2-0 lead early on thanks to run-scoring hits from Avery Tuck and Wenceel Perez, but the Loons scored their four runs over the next three innings to take control. Parker Meadows his first home run of the season, an inside-the-park job, in the bottom of the eighth, but it wasn’t enough to bring the ‘Caps all the way back.
