Toledo Mud Hens (postponed)
The Hens and the Indianapolis Indians were rained out on Thursday. The Columbus Clippers come to town on Friday, and the Hens will send Tyler Alexander — previously scheduled to start on Thursday — to the mound. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
Binghamton Rumble Ponies 7, Erie SeaWolves 5 (box)
The home run troubles returned to Alex Faedo’s world on Thursday. He allowed four round-trippers on a blustery day in Erie en route to surrendering seven runs in just four innings of work. Three of the those home runs came before Faedo recorded his fourth out of the contest.
Derek Hill got the SeaWolves on the board quickly. He doubled to lead off, stole third base, and scored on an Isaac Paredes sacrifice fly. Kody Eaves and Daniel Pinero took advantage of the jet stream in the fourth inning, each cracking their first home run of the season. The score was 7-3 headed into the bottom of the eighth, and the SeaWolves weren’t done. Kody Eaves doubled to right fielder (and former Tigers farmhand) Jason Krizan, scoring Hill and Paredes to close the deficit to two runs. Anthony Castro, Joe Navilhon and John Schreiber shut down the Ponies in relief, but the comeback fell short.
Hill: 1-4, 2B, 2 R, BB, 3 SO, SB
Pinero: 2-4, HR, R, RBI, SO
Eaves: 2-4, 2B, HR, R, 3 RBI, SO
Faedo (L, 0-1): 4.0 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, BB, 6 SO
Coming up next: The SeaWolves and Rumble Ponies meet up again at 6:05 p.m. ET on Friday.
Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Lakeland Flying Tigers 2 (box)
Jesus Rodriguez was roughed up for six runs on Thursday, and the offense didn’t have the firepower for a comeback. Rodriguez struck out five in five innings but surrendered eight hits, including a two-run shot in the second inning. Dylan Rosa doubled three times and didn’t score once, which tells you the story of the Flygers offense in 2019. Daniel Reyes launched a solo shot, his second home run of the season.
Rosa: 3-4, 3 2B, RBI
Reyes: 1-3, HR, 2 R, RBI, BB
Rodriguez (L, 0-2): 5.0 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, BB, 5 SO
Coming up next: Dane Myers faces the Blue Jays’ Nate Pearson on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. ET.
West Michigan Whitecaps (postponed)
The Whitecaps and the Fort Wayne TinCaps were rained out on Thursday. They will make it up with a Friday doubleheader. Wilkel Hernandez will take on the TinCaps’ Joey Cantillo in Game 1, scheduled for a 5:05 p.m. ET first pitch.
