New, comments

Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers’ farm system on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

Toledo Mud Hens 5, Louisville Bats 2 (box)

Mikie Mahtook hit a two-run double to open the scoring, and RBI singles from Pete Kozma and Dustin Peterson eventually put Toledo up 5-1 by the end of the fifth. That was more than enough for the Mud Hens’ pitching staff, who did not allow a hit through the first six innings. Kyle Funkhouser worked four hit-less frames, but still gave up a run after a couple of walks and a wild pitch moved runners into scoring position. Sandy Baez worked a pair of scoreless innings in relief for the win, and Zac Houston picked up his first save of the year.

Castro: 2-4, 3B, 2 R
Peterson: 1-4, R, RBI, 2 SO
Funkhouser: 4.0 IP, 0 H, ER, 2 BB, 7 SO

Coming up next: The Hens and Bats will finish off their series with a late morning matinee (10:35 a.m. start!) at Fifth Third Field.

Altoona Curve 5, Erie SeaWolves 3 (box)

A Josh Lester RBI double gave the SeaWolves a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning, but Altoona answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame en route to a 5-3 win on Tuesday evening. Lester, Derek Hill, and Isaac Paredes provided the RBIs for Erie, who racked up 10 hits but left six runners on base in the loss. Matt Manning struck out nine, but was knocked around in the sixth. He finished with five earned runs allowed on four hits and three walks, and suffered his first loss of the season. Jose Azocar led the SeaWolves with three hits.

Azocar: 3-4, R
Hill: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI
Lester: 1-4, 2B, RBI, SO
Manning (L): 6.0 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 9 SO

Coming up next: The SeaWolves will also get started at 10:35 a.m. ET on Wednesday as they finish up their series with Altoona.

Florida Fire Frogs 5, Lakeland Flying Tigers 1 (box)

Lakeland’s offensive woes continued on Tuesday as they managed just six hits while striking out 13 times in a loss. Cole Peterson managed a pair of singles at the top of the lineup, and Brady Policelli doubled twice, but neither player came around to score. Joey Morgan plated Reynaldo Rivera with an RBI double in the seventh, but the Fire Frogs had a commanding 5-0 lead by that point. Elvin Rodriguez’s scoreless streak came to an end as he allowed five runs on eight hits in six innings.

Policelli: 2-4, 2 2B, SB
Peterson: 2-4, SO, SB
Rodriguez (L): 6.0 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 5 SO
