Rockies GM needs to put Prune Juice in his diet to remove log jam of collection of hitters in AA and AAA. Megatrade with Tigers. Poll.

From Rockies point of view why would they make a trade with the Tigers. Assuming the Rockies want to make the playoffs, they need pitching help, both at starting and relieving at the MLB level. Tigers have an Ace under team control until 2023 and good Closer.

Rockies have a log jam of occuring at 2B and within a year a log jam at 3B and SS. The Rockies are set at 3B with Nolan Arenado until 2026, set at SS with Trevor Story until 2022 and set in RF with Charlie Blackmon until 2022. Right now the Rockies have three players, Ryan McMahon, Brendan Rodgers (#1 prospect) and Garrett Hampson (#3 prospect) playing 2B. The Rockies could move McMahon back 1B but they would be cutting off AAA 1B sluggers Roberto Ramos and Brian Mundell. They could try Hampson in CF and learn on the fly but then your cutting off Future CFs in Yonathan Daza and Sam Hillard. The logical thing to do is do a trade. I think it is Hampson that is outside looking in.

Is Hampson enough to nab Boyd? Of coarse not. The Rockies would have to offer more. Their #2 prospect Cotton Welker playing at AA is a 3B only player. He can pick it at 3B and surprisingly has some range for a slow footed runner. He is too slow to play the outfield but could be shifted over to 1B. He has a tremendous bat but still needs another year in the minors because he has trouble with the soft stuff. Cotton Welker is blocked at 3rd until 2026. If traded to Detroit he would be line with the three Kings in Erie to make their MLB debut.

The Tigers could sweeten the pot by offering Nick because he would be a small upgrade and experience over the current LF Raimel Tapia. This would be helpful for Nick to play in a small ballpark. Hillard and Daza would be a waste in LF with their speed and superior arm strength. For Nick, Rockies could throw in Alan Trejo a 16th round 2017 draft pick, who has made to AA already and doing well. He has the hands, range and arm to stay at ss. Still need another year to develop as he has trouble with soft stuff but can hit the fastball. With too many players ahead and three ss playing A+ including 2nd round pick Ryan Vilade, he is getting sandwiched quickly.

In conclusion, the Rockies get potential Ace until 2023 and two players in Greene (tcontrol until 2021) and Nick to help with playoff push. The Tigers get a good fieldling 2B/SS in Hampson, future 3B in Welker and future SS or UT in Trejo. Hampson and Welker easily trump Candy and Lugo as prospects. This still leave a spot for either Lugo, Trejo, W Castro or Paredes.
