It’s no secret that the MLB draft will be one of the most exciting events of the 2020 season for Detroit Tigers fans. The Tigers, who have their second No. 1 overall pick in three years, have their pick of the litter, which currently consists of a trio of top collegiate prospects.
One of those players is Arizona State first baseman Spencer Torkelson, the best power hitter in this year’s class. He is the top draft prospect on Baseball America’s board, and, as many of his supporters are quick to point out, broke a school home run record previously held by some guy named Barry Bonds. Whether the Tigers should take Torkelson or another player at a more valuable position is a hot topic among fans right now.
And we’re just here to fan the flames. Here’s Torkelson hitting a pair of home runs in a scrimmage this weekend.
Spencer Torkelson went deep twice today at ASU's spring scrimmage game.

We have both on video and three different angles on what looks like easily a potential 1:1 #mlbdraft hitter this summer.https://t.co/L6moHd8Yf1
Make sure to follow Alec and the rest of the Baseball Prospectus crew, who will be dialed in on their prospect coverage all season long.
Spencer Torkelson just hit an absolute rocket over the wall in center, eyeballed it at maybe 400 ft, true line drive. Almost no hang time. #mlbdraft pic.twitter.com/2SyQ1iVZ9e
