My Mom and Baseball

A lot of my love for baseball and sports in general can be traced to my Mom. Never a secret that baseball was first in her heart. My Mom passed away, fairly unexpectedly, last September. This Mother’s Day will be tough, unlike any I have experienced and something I never thought of. My Mom took me to my first game when I was around 5, on Mother’s Day. My Mom wrote the best school absence notes when in reality we were at Opening Day. She often spoke how one year it was too cold for her in the stands so we listened to the rest of the game from our car. She wholeheartedly agrees with me that the 84 Tigers were the greatest team ever. She was great at any quiz I gave her and knew all about Tram, Gibby, Lou, Senior Smoke, Lance, Sparky, Jack, Chet and her favorite Larry Herndon. She loved Ernie Harwell and preferred listening to Dan Dickerson and Jim Price over listening to the TV. I participated in a Tiger Fantasy Camp about 10 years ago and my happiness was only overcome for her joy in watching me have fun. Those are just some of the memories that will help me on Sunday and I thank her for it. I love you and miss you Mom, Go Tigers
