Like many of our friends throughout the SB Nation network, we are simulating the 2020 MLB season with MLB The Show 20. While we are unable to stream the games as they would otherwise be happening, we will try to get ahead of the curve and post about the games on the same day they would have taken place. Or, you know, at least get them back on schedule. Now, onto the recap!
After exploding for 11 runs in their series finale against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, the simulated Detroit Tigers offense swung wildly in the other direction. They managed just three hits on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles, dropping a 4-0 decision.
There’s not a lot to say about this one. The O’s broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer off Michael Fulmer in the fourth, and added a third run when Cameron Maybin misplayed a tailing liner with a runner on base in the fifth. Some bad BABIP luck led to Baltimore’s final run in the eighth, this one against reliever Jose Cisnero.
Strangely, Fulmer was far more efficient than O’s starter Alex Cobb. Despite only giving up two hits, Cobb departed after throwing 102 pitches across just 5 1⁄3 innings. The Tigers drew three walks against him, and worked plenty of deep counts, but were unable to come through with runners on base against him or the Orioles bullpen.
Up next
The Tigers have two more games remaining against the Orioles this weekend before a much-needed off day on Monday. After that, the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals will visit Comerica Park, with trips to Los Angeles and Houston on deck before the All-Star break in mid-July.
