It can be easy, especially now, to be cynical about the idea of professional sports. It can also feel silly to get excited about watching grown men essentially engaging in solitary practice sessions. But all that aside, it’s hard to deny that seeing players from your favorite team start to prepare themselves for the season ahead gets the enthusiasm building.
The offseason is long, especially so when your beloved team isn’t making a lot of splashy moves, so as it gets closer to spring training fans can start to glom on to any kind of content that shows their team in action again (or is that just me?)
Recently several Detroit Tigers have used their online platforms to share video of them gearing up for the 2021 season, and if you can watch videos of Miguel Cabrera essentially doing a side shuffle while simultaneously taking hacks, without some kind of giddy, child-like glee, well... we probably can’t be friends.
Looks like Miggy also tried out a new batting stance that we can probably nickname the “do you need to pee?”

This one isn’t of a practice, but rather Isaac Paredes absolutely destroying a home run in the Mexican Pacific League this past week, which should get your heart going a little.
No doubter? No doubter.

Sixth-ranked #Tigers prospect Isaac Paredes knew this one was gone as soon as it left his bat for @ClubNaranjeros in @Liga_Arco tonight. pic.twitter.com/8fQlOKUD1n
Both Tarik Skubal and Daniel Norris shared clips of their pitching sessions, but as Instagram stories, which expire after 24 hours, so it’s a good idea to make sure you’re following your favorite players on their personal accounts so you don’t miss anything.
What Skubal did in addition to practicing for the new season, though, was get engaged last week to his girlfriend Jessica Valandingham. Congrats Tarik!
We can’t wait to see more video (and of course more “best shape of his life” content) as spring training draws closer to (hopefully) starting.
