It's that time of year again to start floating trade ideas around. Unlike years past, I don't see the need to make a move just to make a move. I don't want to see someone who is productive at the major league level moved for a long shot 40 FV prospect.
We do have some guys who could be valuable to another team on one year deals. Here is one move I think makes sense for both teams.
DET: Jonathan Schoop to Boston
BOS: Michael Chavis to Detroit
Chavis was once a Top 100 prospect but he has fallen out of favor in Boston. He is 25 (soon to be 26). He has shown some power at the major league level (18 HR in 95 games in 2019). He does play 2B, but would probably be more suited as a 1B. Much less pressure here in Detroit. 5 years of team control left. Former 1st round pick. Is currently OPSing .801 in AAA.
I would much rather try to sign Marcus Semien in the offseason than try to bring back Schoop. I could see Schoop looking for a 3 year, $40 deal, which I think is too much for what he brings to the table.
