Just wait til next year...

That's the oldest slogan I can think of in baseball. Everybody else know that one too? Seems like it might be about time to roll it out for 2022.

The wheels are falling off the wagon and I don't think there's time to come back from all the injuries and simply the woeful lack of offense. What can be done to best position the club for 2023?

By position here are some things I'd hope that the Tigers might look to do:

Starting pitchers - Bring Matt Manning back slowly to gain experience and hopefully confidence. Don't over-use Tarik Skubal, but continue to build him up carefully. Develop Beau Brieske carefully and patiently. Wait and see what happens with Eduardo Rodriguez - I don't think there are any other options. Do whatever you can to help Spencer Turnbull heal and be in the plan for 2023. Hope Casy Mize's surgery is successful. Try to develop Elvin Rodriguez, Reese Olson, Rony Garcia, Joey Wentz, and others as regular starters at Toledo. Round out the Tigers' 2022 rotation with Michael Pineda, Wily Peralta, and Tyler Alexander.

Relief pitchers - Negotiate some contract extensions to hold on to the better talent that they've been able to develop at this key position. Greg Soto looks like the real deal to me.

Catcher - Rogers and Dingler are probably the long term key guys. What can you do to make them as ready as possible to play a part in 2023?

First base - Counsel Spencer Torkelson to keep him confident and focused to continue to make progress developing.

Second base - Kody Clemens and Ryan Kriedler probably are the future. Do what you can to make them better players for 2023.

Third base - Can Harold Castro be an everyday player? Is Jeimer Candelario likely to heal? Is Candelario really a long term piece of the puzzle? How soon could Colt Keith emerge as the future everyday third baseman?

Short stop - Figure out what's wrong with Javier Baez. Continue to keep Willi Castro in the mix. Hope that a star might yet emerge from the minors.

Outfield - Please help Riley Greene emerge as a star. Give Akil Baddoo time to develop. Hold on to Austin Meadows, maybe get him under contract. Decide if Victor Reyes can play everyday. Get the best assessment of Daz Cameron's future you possibly can. Keep Kerry Carpenter moving up and perhaps give him a call up to the Tigers before year end. Keep developing Roberto Campos.

DH - Would Miggy play for a couple more years?
