Whoodja Rather Have RightAboutNow? Brock Porter at 4 million or Jackson Jobe at 6.9 million?

The Texas Rangers were able to select 7th ranked Orchard Lake St. Mary pitcher Brock Porter with the 109th pick in the fourth round. They are expected to be able sign Porter for a bonus between 3.5 and 4 million dollars.

In 2021, the Detroit Tigers selected high school pitcher Jackson Jobe with the 3rd pick of the first round. They signed him for 6.9 million dollars.

I have to say, dollar for dollar, I like the Brock Porter signing a whole lot better. It kind of reminds me of when Rick Porcello fell to the Detroit Tigers with the 27th pick of the first round in MLB's 2007 Draft because Scott Boras was his agent and his signability as the best high school pitcher available was in question. He signed a pretty large (11 million) deal with the Tigers which included a 3.5 million dollar signing bonus.

Tell me some good things about Jackson Jobe and his progression this year to offset the pain of seeing another franchise get a good deal on a great prospect. I was hoping Jobe would have burned his way up the charts by now and pitching in front of packed houses in Erie by now. Al Avila and I were kind of counting on that. Instead, I never read much about Jackson Jobe.

I think I'd rather of gotten a hitter with the first round/third overall pick last year and Brock Porter this year. And saved 3 million dollars in the bargain on a fairly comparable pitching talent. Hindsight is 20/20, though. .
