Clearly we need middle infield help going forward. Just playing around on BTV and I found I trade that I would personally say yes to if I were in control. St. Louis is in clear need of pitching so I think we could help them out there. I am originally a metro-Detroiter but I currently live in St. Louis so I get to see the Cardinals play quite a bit. One player I love watching play who is coming off a slightly down year is Tommy Edman. I am sure you all know who he is, but for those who don't he is a Gold Glove winning switch hitter who could realistically play anywhere on the infield dirt and has played OF in STL as well. He fits the Harris philosophy of controlling the strike zone (K% of 16%) and had an fWAR of 5.6 in 2022. I think they would be reluctant to trade Edman, but the trade was validated by BTV so I am going to post it anyway just for fun. Here are the details of the trade:
DET Receives:
IF/OF Tommy Edman - BTV Median Trade Value: 21.8M
STL Receives:
RHP Alex Lange - BTV Median Trade Value: 13.8M
RHP Spencer Turnbull - BTV Median Trade Value: 4.1M
LHP Joey Wentz - BTV Median Trade Value: 5.3M (I do NOT think his value is close to this high)
Obviously this was just for fun. I personally think we should move Lange ASAP due to his value likely at its peak due to control. When he can locate his secondary pitches he is nasty but he really struggled what felt like 3/4 of the season. I also don't think Wentz's value is accurate but hey, I am just going off what BTV tells me. Let me know what you think about this trade and if there are any other targets you'd like to see Harris target in the offseason. I really think the way forward in 2024 is through a significant trade with the FA class being weak in terms of position players.
