Minor League Recaps 6/24

Erie, West Michigan and Connecticut posted wins in yesterday's action. Alex Avila continued his rehab assignment and went 0-5 in his second game with Toledo. And Detroit's 39th overall selection in this year's draft, Corey Knebel, notched his first professional save in West Michigan's win.

Triple-A: Toledo Mud Hens (32-47)

L, 5-4 vs. Pawtucket. Ramon Garcia was charged with the loss for the Mud Hens, as he gave up four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Continuing his rehab assignment, Alex Avila went 0-5 and Nick Castellanos recorded two hits.

W, 11-4 vs. Trenton. Erie used a five-run fifth inning to take the lead and the SeaWolves never looked back. Eugenio Suarez and Hernan Perez were a combined 5-9 with three RBI. James McCann also had a big day, as the catcher drove in three runs.

L, 6-5 vs. Daytona. Lakeland held a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, but Jose Valdez surrendered three earned runs and blew the save. The Flying Tigers would go on to lose the ballgame in extra innings. Steven Moya had a big day for Lakeland, driving in two runs and recording three hits. Moya also hit his fourth home run of the season.

W, 9-6 vs. Fort Wayne. The Whitecaps plated three runs in the top of the thirteenth inning to secure the win. Corey Knebel notched his first professional save, coming on in the bottom of the thirteenth inning and striking out two batters while not allowing a hit. Jeff Holm hit a home run and had 2 RBI, while Jason King launched two home runs in the win. Zach Kirksey provided the game-winning hit, as a doubled home a run for his only hit of the night. Devon Travis had the night off.

Brett Harrison plated the game-winning RBI in the second inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Duncan McAlpine.
