Minor League Recaps 7/3

Lakeland and the GCL Tigers won during yesterday's action. Matt Tuiasosopo appeared in his first game as apart of his rehab assignment with Toledo and went 1-1 with two walks. First-round selection Jonathon Crawford pitched for Connecticut while third-round selection Jeff Thompson made his pro debut for West Michigan.

Triple-A: Toledo Mud Hens (35-53)

L, 3-2 vs. Columbus. Cleveland’s highly touted pitching prospect, Trevor Bauer, started for Columbus and earned the win. Matt Tuiasosopo started his rehab assignment for Toledo and went 1-1 with two walks and scored two runs. Toledo starter Pat Misch surrendered eleven hits over six innings en route to being tagged with the loss.

W, 3-2 vs. Tampa. Kyle Ryan allowed just one unearned run over six innings and earned the win for Lakeland. The Flying Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. The game-winning run was plated in the fifth inning, as Jeff McVaney drove in Devon Travis with a single to centerfield.

Detroit’s third-round selection, Jeff Thompson, made his pro debut and pitched a scoreless eighth inning. The Whitecaps were held to just four hits in the ballgame. Sixteen-year-old Julio Urias, who is the Dodgers’ 20th rated prospect according to MLB.com, started for the Loons and pitched six scoreless innings.

Ben Verlander also faired well and went 1-3 and scored a run.

On a rehab assignment, Dixon Machado went 0-3. The Tigers tossed out five pitchers on the afternoon, and the right-handers combined to yield just five hits.
